Youth Opportunities

at Arab 1st United Methodist Church

MYF meets Sunday nights in the Youth House as does Bible Studies.

Junior High and Senior High meet from 6 pm to 730 pm.

MYF is a time of Methodist Youth Fellowship during which youth gather and "creatively" talk about faith.  The youth have created their own place in the Youth House next to the church.  The gold/brick room has an entire chalkboard wall to express yourself as well as an air hockey table, the music/record room has a couch and chairs to listen to music, the meeting room has couches and chairs with banners a’plenty, the kitchen---well it is a kitchen, the enclosed porch has a ping pong table and a wide variety of sports equipment to play volleyball, basketball, 4 square, etc. in the youth cleared yard.  (MYF=Methodist Youth Fellowship)  Don’t forget to bring your Bibles as you gather to expand your Christian knowledge with other youth your age.

in the Youth House at 1045am.

Christian studies appropriate for junior and senior high youth are based on the Bible and encourage youth discussion and application to everyday life.

Wednesday nights  meet in the Youth House.

5:00 pm to 6:00 pm has the Youth House open for fellowship with friends.  During this time we also gather for OAT = Organized Activity Time. Outdoor activities such as Ultimate Frisbee, Capture the Flag, Volleyball, Four Square and indoor activities such as Rook, Catch Phrase, Gestures are just some of the things you might find the youth doing.

6:00 pm to 7:00 pm is “One Voice.”  This is not your typical youth Bible study but a time to creatively share ideas and explore God and His activity in our lives.  We do a variety of activities about different topics each week.   On occasion we have guest speakers as well as sharing about such things as mission work and serving God in environments other than church.

Creative Arts meet in the Youth House.
Each Wednesday night at the conclusion of One Voice, we share our musical talents as we glorify God. In addition, singing, acting, puppets, music, etc. meet as needed for a particular event preparation. Youth work to use their talents and gifts of creative arts to share God’s word with others, both within our church family and out in the community.

Extras In addition to these scheduled weekly events, youth experience other things together.  For instance, this past year the youth went to Mentone for kayaking and rappelling, went to Tennessee for canoeing on the Elk River, went to CampToKnowHim for an outdoor adventure retreat with zip lines/swimming/ropes courses/rappelling, went to concerts and ball games, went to conference retreats and events, had Discovery at the church (a three day weekend retreat during which the senior high disciple the junior high with one and all having fun and growing in their faith), and had picnics and pool parties. Annually we participate in  See You At The Pole, Souper Super Bowl Sunday and Relay For Life (at which we won an award for the fifth year in a row!)  5th Quarters are held for all the youth of the community following Arab High School home varsity football games with a version of a 5th Quarter held during varsity basketball season and varsity baseball season.

Hope you can join us for one or more of the youth activities.   Come be a part of the youth as they share fellowship in a Christian atmosphere.  Being a youth and being a Christian is never dull at Arab First United Methodist Church!  If you have any questions or need help with transportation, call the church office at 586-5792, the Youth House at 931-2094 or send email to youtharab@otelco.net.
